The documentary film “Da Vinci” is a story about the outstanding Ukrainian warrior and freedom fighter Dmytro Kotsyubail, who, after experiencing all the dangers of the revolution on the Maidan, went to the front as an boy to defend the country against the Russians. For 9 years in the war, Dmytro became a legendary commander, who, through his courage and dedication, served as an example for many comrades.
In December 2021, President Volodymyr Zelensky presented Kotsiubailo with the nation’s highest award – the Golden Star order – as well as the title of Hero of Ukraine. Dmytro became the youngest commander to receive the title, as well as the first volunteer fighter in the history of Ukraine to be awarded while still alive.
The film aims not only to tell in detail the life story of this great warrior but also to explore the evolution of his formation as a patriot and defender.

Royal Opera House: Songs for Ukraine Chorus
Bradford Cathedral and The Royal Opera House present ‘Songs for Ukraine Chorus’ performing Christmas Songs as the beginning of the Royal Opera House’s contribution to Bradford City of Culture 2025. The event takes place at Bradford Cathedral on Sunday 10th December at 3pm and will feature the Bradford Ukrainian Community Choirs Fiyalka and Dibrova.
Against the backdrop of the terrible war in Ukraine, the Royal Opera House set up ROH Songs for Ukraine Chorus, bringing together displaced Ukrainians to sing with the Royal Opera Chorus. The first performance at the Royal Opera House in March was a creative exchange, singing Ukrainian liturgical and folk repertoire and opera choruses and received great acclaim, both from the audience and international press.

We are now proud to present this Chorus for their first performance outside London in Bradford in preparation for City of Culture. Set in the beautiful surroundings of Bradford Cathedral, ROH Songs for Ukraine Chorus will perform songs from Ukraine’s rich Christmas tradition, with some well known and lesser known Carols. They will be joined by our own Grace Notes choir and singers from Bradford’s own Ukrainian community. Come and celebrate Christmas with us in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and show how the collective act of singing can inspire hope.

Tickets for the event are available now using the link below:

як прийняти дійсність та жити повноцінно;
як допомогти собі та іншим;

Bradford – 2 December at 12.00, Ukrainian Community Centre – 169 Legrams Lane BD7 2EA with Chubyk Maksym.
Dear friends, we have organized for you an amazing opportunity to meet with Maksym Chubyk, a Ukrainian army veteran, a military psychologist, a mountain guide, and a person who organizes group psychological trainings.
Many of us are traumatized by the events and news from Ukraine. Almost everyone from Ukraine has loved ones and friends who defend their homeland, some who are wounded, killed or missing. Many temporarily left the country due to shelling, some returned, some stayed – everyone lost something important to them after February 24.
Therefore, the meeting will touch on the following points:
how to accept reality and live to the fullest;
how to help yourself and others;
how to communicate with soldiers who have returned from the war.
The event will be accompanied by musical breaks performed by our star performers. There will be translation into English.
This event is a charity event, organized by volunteers, therefore we kindly ask for a donation for your attendance. Your donation will be used to purchase a pickup truck for the 141st brigade.
We will be glad to gather in a pleasant circle of like-minded people!

Our ever popular flavoured vodka shack returns, and our Yorkshire Gin bar receives an update!

Ukraine & Russia – Past & Present

When Ukraine declared itself independent in 1991 it sealed the final collapse
of the Soviet Union. Photographer Tim Smith was there to document both sides
of this pivotal moment.

As the uncovering of a previously forbidden history helped to forge a new
nation, this past also shapes the present. To support those impacted by the war
Tim will showcase his images in a talk exploring the stories of Ukraine and
British Ukrainians.

Tim’s photographs of Ukraine were published in The Observer, The Guardian and other newspapers. In 1997 he produced a touring exhibition entitled Ukraine’s Forbidden History with a book by Dewi Lewis Publishing.

On-line: Hosted by Royal Photographic Society – Wed 30th March 6pm

In person: National Science & Media Museum – Midday Sun 3rd April https://www.scienceandmediamuseum.org.uk/whats-on

Settle Victoria Hall – 7.30pm Tuesday 5 April https://www.settlevictoriahall.org.uk/eventsandshows

All proceeds to the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

The Ukrainian Communities across West Yorkshire are keen to play our part in making a statement of support for Ukraine.

We aim to bring together as many of our friends and members as possible for a rally on Saturday 29th January at 1pm at Leeds Town Hall.

Press notice – 30 Anniversary Ukraine’s Independence 24 August 1991.

Thirty years ago, on 24 August 1991, Ukraine’s Parliament issued a Declaration of Independence, which was subsequently confirmed in a referendum on 1 December by an overwhelming 92.3% of Ukrainians on a national turnout of over 84%. This included over 80% of those who voted in eastern provinces of Ukraine and well over 50% of those in Crimea.

The last 30 years have shown the determination of Ukrainians to fight for their independence and create a new future based on European values and respect for social justice and human rights. In 2004 and again in 2014, the Ukrainian people showed that they would never give up their identity as a sovereign nation, even at the cost of their own lives.

While we celebrate today, our celebrations are tinged with sadness – for the lives lost defending Ukraine from Russia’s war in the east, for our Crimean Tatar brothers and sisters whose human rights are being violated following Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014, and for all those who have lost their families and homes from Russia’s continued and unwarranted aggression. We also acknowledge the help and practical support Ukraine has received from the UK Government, amongst others, to strengthen our defensive capabilities and develop Ukraine’s democratic institutions.

Ukraine stands on the border between the democratic West and the totalitarian Russian state. It reminds us that democracy and respect for human rights is a cause that is worth fighting for. As the Ukrainian national anthem says: We will lay down our souls and our lives for our freedom.

On this day we stand heart and soul in solidarity with Ukrainians everywhere as we say Glory to Ukraine!

Leeds City Council have agreed to light up the Leeds Town Hall, Civic Hall and City Museum in blue and yellow on 24th August 2021 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Independence in Ukraine. They have also agreed to fly our national flag over two civic buildings. Please join us in celebrating this event. Come along and meet up outside the Town Hall in your embroidered shirts just before 20:00.

The lights will come on at dusk just after 20:00.

Come and Sing Carmina Burana

Tom Leech, the inspiring Musical Director of BFCS and expert choral director, leads this workshop on Carl Orff’s riotous and exhilarating Carmina Burana.
Our ‘Come and Sing’ events have been praised for combining a relaxed, friendly and informal atmosphere with brilliant musical content. You’ll learn some wonderful music, enjoy Tom’s insights, tips and humour, and pick up new vocal ideas along the way. Some music-reading ability and a little previous choral experience will help you get the most out of the afternoon.

There will be a social break for food and drink between the rehearsal and the performance. For the first time, we are using the excellent hall at Bradford Ukrainian Centre – if you are not familiar with it you’re in for a pleasant surprise, a hidden Bradford gem!

IMG_0271We celebrate the history of Krylati Ukrainian Dance Ensemble in Bradford, with a collection of classic footage from the groups past. Click Here To Watch  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLVWTPYIhik

A Ukrainian dance group has been in existence in Bradford since 1948 following the migration of quite a large number of Ukrainians after the second World War. In 1963 the group was reorganised and adopted the name “Krylati” (translated this means the winged ones). The ballet-master and choreographer Ostap Buriak became its director who was active until his death in 1995. He trained two young choreographers, Olha Stepovanna and the late Mykhailo Diakiw, as his successors. Olha Stepovanna taught the group until 2007, Mychajlo Shutak took on the task as the teacher after numerous years of dancing under all three previous choreographers. From the sixties to the present day the group has represented Bradford Ukrainians in numerous festivals and has appeared several times on T.V. The group was invited many times to the international Eisteddfod in Llangollen it also performed at Bradford Theatres the Alhambra and St Georges Hall.

29 & 30 November 2014 – Maidan Film

SPECIAL SCREENING AT THE UKRAINIAN CLUB BRAFORD

ilm by SERGEI LOZNITSA<br
ector: Sergei Loznitsa<br

nd designer: Vladimir Golovnitski<br
ducers: Maria Choustova-Baker, Sergei Loznitsa<br
duction: ATOMS & VOID HD, colour, 130 min

MAIDAN chronicles the civil uprising that took place in Kiev (Ukraine) in the winter of 2013/14. The film follows the progress of the revolution: from peaceful rallies, half a million strong, in the Maidan square, to the bloody street battles between the protestors and riot police. MAIDAN is a portrait of an awakening nation, rediscovering its identity. Director Sergei Loznitsa rises above current political issues and looks at the nature of the popular uprising as a social, cultural and philosophical phenomenon. A powerful mix of enthusiasm, heroic struggle, terror, courage, aspiration, people& solidarity, folk culture, passion and self-sacrifice, MAIDAN is a stunning cinematic canvas combining classical film making style and documentary urgency
