About the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB)
The Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB) is the largest representative body for Ukrainians and those of Ukrainian descent. It exists to develop, promote and support the interests of the Ukrainian community in the UK.
AUGB operates a network of 28 local branches, with their own social/community centre, across the UK. There are also 19 smaller branches and sub-branches which do not have their own centre, but organise periodic events for Ukrainians in their area. At local level, we support Ukrainian Community Schools, Day Centres and a range of cultural and social activities.
AUGB works closely with other community organisations, including the Association of Ukrainian Women (AUW), youth organisations and others. We have a working relationship with the Embassy of Ukraine in the United Kingdom.
The Association welcomes new members, both individuals and corporate bodies, who subscribe to the purposes of the Association and who want to maintain and develop the life and interests of the Ukrainian community in Great Britain.The Association’s local branches provide lots of opportunities for people to become involved and make a difference: helping to run the community centre, organising social and cultural events, raising awareness of Ukrainian issues externally, and helping maintain pride in our heritage and traditions. Tea by Royal Appointment
Tuesday, 21 May 2024, was a landmark day for 4 members of our Bradford Ukrainian community, who had received invitations to attend the Royal Garden Party taking place at Buckingham Palace that day. The 4 people who attended were Orysia Chymera, Branch chair, and active hard-working members of the community committees, Ewhen Chymera, Nina Faryna Prodywus and Hania Szlachetko, all recognised for their tireless, dedicated and hard work in supporting the temporarily displaced Ukrainians who have arrived in Bradford, since the illegal and full scale invasion of Ukraine by the russian aggressor on 24 February 2022, as well as fundraising and organising aid to Ukraine. All this in addition to their long service to AUGB and other organisations in various capacities both locally, nationally, and internationally.
Although King Charles himself wasn’t present, other members of the Royal Family were, including Prince William and his cousins. During the Royal Garden Party, Orysia Chymera was presented to Princess Beatrice, with whom she had a lengthy conversation.
Although it rained throughout the afternoon, it was still an enjoyable experience and one not to be missed or forgotten by those attending, which will long remain in their memory in the years to come.
We congratulate and are proud of our members on being presented with the opportunity to attend the Royal Garden Party and also thank them for their loyal service to the Ukrainian community and for their hard and often unnoticed work.
While attending the Royal Garden Party, our members met up with branch representatives and colleagues from Derby who had been similarly recognised for their work in their local community.
Королівське запрошення на чай
Вівторок, 21 травня 2024 року, став знаменним днем для чотирьох членів нашої української громади в Брадфорді, які отримали запрошення відвідати вечірку в Королівському саду, що відбулася в цей день у Букінгемському палаці. Були присутніми: Орися Химера, голова відділу, та активні працьовиті члени управ громади, Євген Химера, Ніна Фарина Продивус і Ганя Шляхетко, усі визнані своєю невтомною, самовідданою та важкою працею у підтримці тимчасово переміщених українців, які прибули до Брадфорда, з моменту незаконного та повномасштабного вторгнення в Україну російського агресора 24 лютого 2022 року, які також проводили збір коштів та організовували допомогу Україні. Усе це було лиш додатком до їхнього багаторічного служіння в СУБ та інших організаціях на різних посадах як на місцевому, національному, так і на міжнародному рівнях.
Хоча сам король Чарльз не був присутній, інші члени королівської родини були на вечірці, включаючи принца Вільяма та його двоюрідних братів. Під час вечірки в королівському саду Орися Химера була представлена принцесі Беатріс, з якою вони довго спілкувалася.
Незважаючи на те, що після обіду йшов дощ, все одно це був приємний досвід для присутніх, який не можна було пропустити або забути, досвід, який надовго залишиться в їхній пам’яті у наступні роки.
Ми вітаємо та пишаємось нашими членами з такою можливістю відвідати вечірку в Королівському саду, а також дякуємо їм за віддане служіння українській громаді та за їхню важку та часто непомічену працю.
Під час відвідування вечірки в Королівському саду наші учасники зустрілися з представниками відділів і колегами з Дарбі, які також отримали визнання за роботу у своїй місцевій громаді.
