Homes for Ukraine – eVisa (digital visa)
OFFICIAL
The Home Office had initially begun sending emails to some visa holders with BRPs, inviting them to create a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account to access their eVisa, a digital proof of their immigration status. However, from 6 August 2024 the rollout was opened to everybody who has a BRP regardless of whether they have had the invitation or not.
The Government is now urging all visa holders who live in the UK and use a physical immigration document, such as a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP), to prove their rights are urged to take action now at Get access to your eVisa: Overview – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk). For more information visit gov.uk/eVisa.
It is important that everybody affected applies or they will not be able to prove their immigration status after 31 December 2024 without the eVisa. We have also been asked to tell our Ukrainian guests that they should hold on to their BRP cards as they may require these if they wish to apply to the Ukraine Permission Extension scheme (see below).
Support will be available from this month to a UK-wide network of voluntary and community sector organisations to provide valuable and independent support for vulnerable customers, as part of the transition from physical immigration documents to eVisas. Details of these organisations and how to contact them will be published on gov.uk.
Here are links with further information:
· More information on what people need to do and by when, including for those who currently hold a physical immigration document, and a full list of grant funded organisations offering support, is available at www.gov.uk/eVisa. A full list of organisations, which will be updated over time, can be found at eVisa: community support for vulnerable people – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
on the second anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine
For the past two years, Ukraine’s brave Armed Forces have defended the territorial integrity of their country.
We have witnessed 730 days of destruction of Ukraine, its cities and villages, its infrastructure, killings of civilians, prisoners and wounded, incredible losses and suffering, violence and displacement of millions of people left homeless, separation from family and friends, an educational crisis for children and students, a crisis in mental health, the occupation of parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions… All of this horror has been caused by the Russian Federation when it unleashed its brutal full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022.
At the outset, Ukrainians experienced both fear and shock. Some immediately volunteered for the front line or to assist in other ways, while others experienced the terror of fleeing to the border to escape the terror of war. But Russia failed. Ukraine did not fall, did not surrender, did not lose its statehood or its independence. On the contrary, Ukrainians all over the world remain united and will continue to stand against illegal aggression, as they have done since 2014.
We salute the courage of Ukraine’s Armed Forces and the Ukrainian nation. We are also extremely grateful to the United Kingdom, European countries, the United States and all those countries that have provided Ukraine with support and assistance throughout these past two difficult years.
The destruction and damage caused by the Russian Federation, which amounts to hundreds of billions of pounds, is being recorded by analysts at the ‘Russia Will Pay’ project. This is documenting, verifying, and estimating all material damage caused to Ukraine’s physical infrastructure for Ukraine’s post-war recovery, calculating the scale of future reparations. All steps must be taken to use frozen Russian assets to help rebuild Ukraine.
The Russian Federation has committed thousands of war crimes against Ukrainians and we fully support all the efforts being made to establish an International Tribunal to hold Russia to account and bring justice to all who have suffered.
Over the past two years, millions of displaced Ukrainians, have had to reconstruct their lives in other countries. We are confident that they will return to a free Ukraine, where they will make an incredible contribution towards the reconstruction of their homeland into a fully free, democratic, modern, safe and vibrant country.
In the battle for a better tomorrow, Ukraine will prevail! Slava Ukraїni!

The Kremlin says Ukrainian military pilot Nadia Savchenko will serve her 22-year prison sentence handed down by a Russian court, despite Kyiv’s pushing for a prisoner exchange. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: “With Savchenko, the situation is as simple and understandable as possible. Savchenko is a convict… She will serve her sentence.” In excerpts from a televised interview published on March 26, Peskov denied any decision had been taken on Savchenko’s release or exchange. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said Kyiv was ready to swap her for Russian prisoners. . Peskov said “so far, there are no such decisions” by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Peskov acknowledged that U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier raised Savchenko’s case on recent visits to Moscow. However, he downplayed their comments, saying “Kerry did not come to pressure Putin over Savchenko.” Savchenko was sentenced on March 22 after being convicted of involvement in the deaths of two Russian journalists in eastern Ukraine in 2014. She denies the charges. #FreeSavchenko
